First read the following for future reference

You receive a "0x800A01AE" error message or a "0x080070570" error message when you
try to
connect to the Windows Update Web page or to the Microsoft Update Web page in
Windows
Server 2003 or Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910359

When accessing the Update site, you receive the 0x800A01AE error.
http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6/showarticle.aspx?articleid=38&ln=en

This issue may happen if the current session of Internet Explorer has cached an
older
version of Wuapi.dll
Clean out your temporary internet files etc.

If that doesn't fix the problem:-

Try re-registering the following dlls

Click Start, Select: Run
Now type the follow commands in the Open box, pressing okay after each one:-

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll

Reboot and try the Windows Update site again.
