So I got a copy of 10.5, and duly installed it.
What a mistake, talk about slow. Each time I went to turn off, I needed
to hold the power button to shut it down, othewise it would just hang
and do nothing.
It was woefully slow opening apps, as well as responding to clicks.
The fans kept coming on - this is on a laptop where the fans are rarely
heard at all, even on hot summer days.
So, back to 10.3.9 today, and very glad of it.

My next mistake was to try 10.5 on the newer iMac we have here. So after
the first install where I kept getting a blue screen after reboot, I
installed again. To get the seized up blue screen again. So googling
shows this is a known fault, but obviously unknown to me. The 'fix' of
using terminal commands didnt work, so it needs another install to get
it working, hopefully.
Christ, if this is how the OS is going, I'll be sticking with 10.3.9 for
a long time yet.
Anyone want to buy a retail copy of 10.5?
Alan.

That's not normal. Presumably you waited for the initial indexing of
your disk to complete? It takes a long time and will make a laptop's
fans run.

Cheers,

Chris

Yes, and from another thread today, I can see it is not just me that has
had the shut down fault.
I ran it for 3 days, and could stand it no longer - it was just too
slow.
I could not see any worthwhile benefits over 10.3, so have resorted
back, and am very happy to have gone back too.
Alan.

I'm with Chris. There is something wrong with your spotty thing.
Here, on four different Macs, Leopard is faster and mostly more stable
than Tiger, and Tiger was better than 10.3

I'm running 10.5.3 on a 1.5Ghz PB with 768Mb of RAM and it's performing
very well.
Occasionally it'll beach ball and it sometimes takes a little time to
open certain apps like NeoOffice, Google Earth but I wouldn't say it was
slow.
Although I guess "slow" is a subjective term?
