From: pacca on 7 Oct 2008 19:28 Does the 420 ps-375 watt have 1 or 2- 12 volt rail,the manual says 2 but the last time I open the case I thought I seen 1.I bought a geforce 8800GT and it's got 2 cables (2 wires on each cables connector)so if it has 2 12 volts I have to buy 2 Y adapters.I hope I'm making sense.

From: pacca on 7 Oct 2008 19:47 Yeah the chart says 10 and 11 ,but the diagram only shows 10---no 11 "Pen" <nospam(a)nospam.net> wrote in message news:gcgs09$ea$1(a)registered.motzarella.org... > pacca wrote: >> Does the 420 ps-375 watt have 1 or 2- 12 volt rail, the manual says 2 but >> the last time I open the case I thought I seen 1.I bought a geforce >> 8800GT and it's got 2 cables (2 wires on each cables connector)so if it >> has 2 12 volts I have to buy 2 Y adapters.I hope I'm making sense. > The power supply connectors are found here; > http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xps420/en/OM/HTML/parts.htm#wp1472790

You won't be able to determine that unless you open the power supply and look, and even then it may not be obvious. A "rail" in a power supply is the path that power takes as it is regulated to the proper voltage levels. If you have two twelve volt rails, then you have two separate sources of +12V in that power supply. This can help when trying to power especially heavy loads that might otherwise be too much load for one regulator and it supporting components to handle. William

maybe I only have to connect 1 six pin,this is a 8800GT,from what I understand the 8800GTX requires 2 six pin connections,am I right,I didn't get any manual or instructions with this card.TIA "pacca" <tpacc(a)nospam.com> wrote in message news:gcgseq$3js$1(a)registered.motzarella.org... > Yeah the chart says 10 and 11 ,but the diagram only shows 10---no 11 > "Pen" <nospam(a)nospam.net> wrote in message > news:gcgs09$ea$1(a)registered.motzarella.org... >> pacca wrote: >>> Does the 420 ps-375 watt have 1 or 2- 12 volt rail,the manual says 2 but >>> the last time I open the case I thought I seen 1.I bought a geforce >>> 8800GT and it's got 2 cables (2 wires on each cables connector)so if it >>> has 2 12 volts I have to buy 2 Y adapters.I hope I'm making sense. >> The power supply connectors are found here; >> http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xps420/en/OM/HTML/parts.htm#wp1472790 > |
