From: Henri on 15 Jan 2006 22:18 Hi, Weird problem with my local network. I use ethernet for connecting to the Internet and the 1394 interface to connect to the local network. It's not an option moving to another type of connexion then 1394. I've used the configuration for years, and quite recently the network 1394 connexion has vanished from the "Network Connexions" window. After it re-appeared a couple of hours later, there was no way to make it work with tcp/ip : 1) double-click opens the status window, where all values under "Support" tab (like Address type, etc.) are "<Unavailable>". 2) Right-click, then "Repair" gives the message "tcp/ip is not enabled for this connection. Cannot proceed". 3) The Internet Protocol shows present (box is checked) in the "1394 Connexion 5 Properties". Clicking "Properties" I can normally access to the TCP/IP properties window and assign the local network static address+mask (value irrelevant). BUT: if I click from "1394 Connexion 5 Properties" on "Install", then "Protocol", "Add..." I get a message : "Windows was unable to find any drivers for this device. If you have a disk thet contains the updated driver, etc...". (Normally, it should propose Netbios and IPv6, like it does on my ethernet network connection). If I browse to windows/inf, it shows tcp/ip, but trying to install it changes nothing. 4) Running "Network Setup Wizard" ends up in an error message with no useful information as for its reason. 5) Running ipconfig /all doesn't list the "1394 Connexion 5", only the "Local Area Connection" which is the ethernet one. 6) "netsh interface show interface" gives : Admin State State Type Interface Name ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Enabled Dedicated 1394 Connection 5 Enabled Dedicated Local Area Connection Enabled Internal Internal Enabled Loopback Loopback 7) Running "C:\Documents and Settings\Bill Gates>netsh -c interface ip dump" gives : # ---------------------------------- # Interface IP Configuration # ---------------------------------- pushd interface ip # Interface IP Configuration for "Local Area Connection" set address name="Local Area Connection" source=dhcp set dns name="Local Area Connection" source=dhcp register=PRIMARY set wins name="Local Area Connection" source=dhcp popd # End of interface IP configuration (once again, the 1394 connection is not there). 8) running 'netsh interface ip set address name="1394 Connection 5" source=static addr=10.0.0.1 mask=255.255.255.0' and/or 'n.i.i. set wins name="1394 Connection 5" source=static addr=none' results in no error messages but no changes either. 9) The ethernet connection (DHCP) works fine. 10) Restoring to a restore point gives no result. Unchecking TCP/IP in "1394 Connexion 5 Properties" then revalidating it gives no result. Disabling "1394 Connexion 5" then enabling, no result. Disabling the "OHCPI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller" or "1394 Net Adapter" in "Device Manager", then enabling, no result. Reinstalling the 1394 controller device's drivers, no result. 11) I've had the same problem before, and had to make a clean install to make it work, which I would like to avoid right now. 12) I'm running windows XP SP2. I reinstalled the 1394 drivers from SP1, but with no result. 13) I've seen many posts on the web for a similar problem, but never a solution. 14) The 1394 card is SB Audigy 2. Reinstalling the drivers gives no result. Installing on another slot gives no result. 15) Couldn't think of anything else I could test and do... Could anybody share his experience/try to help the problem? Thanks in advance. Henri |
