Has anyone else used this AAMS Automatic Mastering software? I downloaded
the demo today and it seems pretty cool. I haven't had much time to play
with it, but I know the new version comes out next week and it is supposed
to have one-touch automatic mastering. Anyone else been using this and have
any reviews/thoughts on it? Thanks.

Not me, but the whole idea seems insane.
Mastering is an art. A mastering engineer listens to the
songs and makes them sound right. The idea of
an algorithm doing that seems impossible. How
can anything know what "right" sounds like?

Just running something through some multiband compressors
and adding a smile-shaped EQ curve is not mastering.

I have actually used the demo and it's very neat. First it analyzes the
wave file.....this process takes a good 15 minutes or better per
song......then you choose a reference file (the program has pre-sets of
about 100 different styles....some for just vocals, and most for the overall
song.) It then shows you what your Graphic EQ, Compressor, and Loudness
maximize settings should be based on those reference files (the reference
files are based on typical settings used for that style of song.).....you
can also import songs that you like how they were mastered/produced, and you
can have the program analyze that file, and then save the data as a
reference file....thus, if you like the way a Madonna CD sounds for
instance, you can make a reference file based on the settings that were used
for that CD.....and then apply it to your music. The new version that is
supposed to come out in a few days will have one-touch mastering as well.
Neat stuff......people are being very reluctant to give it a chance....
