I'm hoping someone here can help me:

I have a computer with an ABIT AS8 motherboard.
The computer has been working fine for 14 months.
I installed the latest BIOS update a month or so ago.

Just in the last week, the computer has been refusing to boot some
of the time, and now it will never boot.

I have tried unplugging the power cable for minutes, clearing the
CMOS using the jumper, removing the button battery, and
disconnecting the two plugs connecting the motherboard directly to
the power supply (ATX12V1 and ATXPWR1), but to no avail.

These are the only clues I have, but I am not sure how to interprate
them:

Sometimes when I connect the power cord, the uGuru POST code is '0.0.',
and other times it is 'F. '.

I recorded the uGuru POST code display with a digital camera (at
30 frames per second) during startup:

time (s) POST code
0.000 '0.0.' pushed power button, fans power up
0.067 '8.3.'
0.300 'F. ' all fans powered off!!?
5.133 ' F.'
5.200 ' 1.'
6.300 '0.0.'

N.B. In the manual:
'8.3.' is 'ATX power supply ready',
'8.4.' is 'DDR Volage ready'
'F.1.' is 'SoftMenu Reset'.

Does this mean my power supply is dead, my RAM is dead, or something
else?

Thanks in advance,
Stephen

Try to clean up all the contacts of your PCI cards and VGA cards.

The problem may be due to poor contacts.
