From: sheana on 6 Jul 2008 14:35 I have set up my OE to download a number of Microsoft newsgroups. My question is that if I select a particular newsgroup, say microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general and then click Tools-->Get next 1000 headers, I download more messages. This does not happen with microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general. It stays at 3243 messages no matter what. Is this because that's all the messages there are on that particular thread? It doesn't seem logical that it wouldn't change from day to day. Also, is there a limit to the number of messages on a thread? Some topics have over 10K messages, so this doesn't make sense eithe
From: PA Bear [MS MVP] on 6 Jul 2008 14:38 Please do NOT start any more new threads about this in any newsgroup, Sheana. If you must make identical posts to multiple newsgroups, please cross-post one (1) message to all of them. Thank you. From: Ron Sommer on 6 Jul 2008 14:43 Uncheck Get 1000 headers, then all messages will download. -- Ronald Sommer "sheana" <sheana(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:FCF1F2E9-5028-486A-AC18-F28C5CABDFB9(a)microsoft.com... > I have set up my OE to download a number of Microsoft newsgroups. From: sheana on 6 Jul 2008 16:16 Ron, I "Get 1000 headers was unchecked". My oldest heading in microsoft.public. outlookexpress.general is 4/7/2008 and is "cannot open a ..wmv file attachment" from Jimthe bonehead. When I select msnews.microsoft.com in OE, it has a "Synchronize Account" button as well as a "Newsgroups" and Settings drop down button. I have no idea how to configure them and what is the difference except for all, new and headers only. Could that have anything to do with the problem I'm having? By default, newsgroup messages are retained on the MS newsserver for 90 days (i.e., 4/7/2008 through 7/6/2008). When you open OE General newsgroup tomorrow (i.e., 7/7/2008), all messages posted on 4/7/2008 will be deleted from OE automatically. OE can and will only display messages still on the newsserver. If you want to save one or more messages, you must COPY them to a local OE folder for archiving. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ sheana wrote: > Ron, I "Get 1000 headers was unchecked".
