From: Mike on 7 Apr 2008 23:24 I won a laptop on Ebay and I want to reinstall the OS. Unfortunately the Bios is password protected and i am not having any luck getting responses from the previous owner. This unit has the Phoenix TrustedCore version 1.51 bios. Most likely Acer may have done its own version of this. I tried the 000000 password reset and that did not work per instruction from Acer tech support. Now they want me to send the unit in and charge me $100.00. I am trying to avoid that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. http://www.myspace.com/michaelhfell http://www.myspace.com/mfell Regards Mike

In order to induce the vendor to respond, initiate eBay's return policy, because the goods are not fit for use as offered. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada)

Here is the link to the auction. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250230720285&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015 He seems to be a nice guy based on the fact he left me positive feedback as soon as i paid for the item. He states in the auction he is selling it "As is as a parts or repair unit". That said I wish he would have told me the Bios and the recovery process is password protected and gave them to me after I paid for the item. I really can't complain too much though based on what i paid for it although I would be willing to fix it if i could only get to the Bios. http://www.myspace.com/michaelhfell http://www.myspace.com/mfell Regards Mike

I'm not defending the seller but in all honesty he probably doesn't have a clue as to what the bios password is.

I'm thinking that the seller is really nice because it is a stolen laptop. And they are happy to get any money for a password protected stolen laptop. :-( -- Bill |
