I won a laptop on Ebay and I want to reinstall the OS. Unfortunately
the Bios is password protected and i am not having any luck getting
responses from the previous owner. This unit has the Phoenix
TrustedCore version 1.51 bios. Most likely Acer may have done its own
version of this. I tried the 000000 password reset and that did not
work per instruction from Acer tech support. Now they want me to send
the unit in and charge me $100.00. I am trying to avoid that. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

In order to induce the vendor to respond, initiate eBay's
return policy, because the goods are not fit for use as offered.

Here is the link to the auction.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=250230720285&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=015

He seems to be a nice guy based on the fact he left me positive
feedback as soon as i paid for the item. He states in the auction he
is selling it "As is as a parts or repair unit". That said I wish he
would have told me the Bios and the recovery process is password
protected and gave them to me after I paid for the item. I really
can't complain too much though based on what i paid for it although I
would be willing to fix it if i could only get to the Bios.

I'm not defending the seller but in all honesty he probably doesn't have a
clue as to what the bios password is.

I'm thinking that the seller is really nice because it is a stolen
laptop. And they are happy to get any money for a password protected
stolen laptop. :-(
