Continually posting "Any suggestions?" is counter-productive. This isn't
paid tech support. Chuck, and everyone else trying to help you, is a
volunteer with a life outside of newsgroups. I'm sure he'll be back
when he can.

In the meantime, here is an excellent network troubleshooter by MVP
Hans-Georg Michna. Take the time to go through it carefully and it will
pinpoint the issues. Then post the results of the troubleshooting for
more help.

Dan,

Can you actually map a share as \\dan_basement\nameofshare, and access files
that way? An error 5 is access denied.

If you disabled Simple File Sharing, check the Local Security Policies (Control
Panel - Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

If you truly are using an administrative account that is defined on both
computers with identical non-blank password, check your Local Security Policy
(Control Panel - Administrative Tools) - User Rights Assignment, on the XP Pro
computer, and look at "Deny access to this computer from the network". Make
sure your admin account is not in the list. Look at "Access this computer from
the network", and make sure that Everyone is in this list.

Cheers,

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
My email is AT DOT
actual address pchuck sonic net.
From: harryguy082589 on
Thanx for the suggestion, i looked and saw that although the
administrator account was not on the list of computers denied access
from the network the guest account was, i took it off. Nonetheless
there still seems to be something wrong on a different level: Neither
the tablet nor the desktop acknowledge that the tablet exists on the
network, the tablet can see and access the desktop, but when i view the
whole network it doesn't see itself.

thanks a million,

Dan

p.s.

I tried mapping a network drive and accessing a file on my desktop from
my tablet and both of those things worked/.
