From: wfprince on 20 Dec 2007 08:00 We have been using the same computers and Authorware courses for about a year and a half. As we set up new machines or re-image the older ones IE will not allow awswaxd.cab to down load. We get an error message: Windows has blocked this software because it can't verify the publisher. Name: awswaxd.cab Publisher: Unknown publisher. Our IT staff believes this is on the Adobe end and is ready to throw in the towel. Do any of you have any ideas on how I can resolve this issue? wfp
From: Erik **AdobeCommunityExpert** on 20 Dec 2007 11:14 Well, kinda depends. If IT is not going to allow any ActiveX control to install where the publisher is 'unknown', then you're probably stuck. I'm not sure, but think it's pretty much a Microsoft thing that software developers can pay them to get an official license so the OS will not flag such installs. It's not *required* but can be enforced through Windows policies. It sounds like your IT group is requiring a publisher certificate for the control to be installed. If they are NOT specifically requiring a certificate, then it should be an IE security setting you can change ("allow unsigned ActiveX installs", or something like that). If that doesn't work, download the .cab file itself and unzip it. Inside should be some sort of installer. Run that outside the CAB file and perhaps that will still install everything you need (in essence, bypassing IE doing the install and doing instead manually). Do any of you have any ideas on how I can resolve this issue? I once had this issue with a course, and the problem was that there was a caching server that cached the control rather than passing the request on to the server where it was hosted and getting the full control back. The problem is (IIRC) that there is a hash code that is passed with the request that has to match the control that is sent back. Because the control has been cached as a result of a different request, its hash code doesn't match, so the control appears to have an unverified publisher. Ask your IT staff if they've recently added a caching server. HTH; Amy
From: wfprince on 28 Dec 2007 10:26 Amy, Hash for the holidays. Not very appetizing. Our problem was magically cured over the weekend. The publisher name now shows up and everything is working. Perhaps this is consistent with a caching change. Our IT group did admit to making some changes along these lines so I am assuming that you are, once again, correct. As always I greatly appreciate your help. Warren

Not sure how much help I was, since I don't remember how we fixed it when it happened. If your IT department hadn't fixed it, then you'd have had to warm wrestle them for it, I suspect. Have a happy New Year. -Amy
