From: sudsburg on 3 Apr 2006 08:43 Will Adobe/Macromedia have hotfix for all applications by Adobe/Macromedia? LUF: Microsoft has been fighting a patent case against Eolas Technologies for a while; the patent office just ruled in favor of Eolas Technologies. As a part of the ruling Microsoft is required to remove a large majority of the Active X technology from Internet Explorer. Microsoft will be releasing a critical hotfix on April 11 via Windows Update that when applied will remove IE's capability to use many Active X controls. This will probably break a lot of web applications/ web sites. (The ability to automatically open a quicktime movie, shockwave flash applet, or PDF in Internet Explorer may be impaired until these vendors re-release their software packages.) On April 11 Microsoft will release an additional, optional tool that when applied will allow Active X controls to function as normal for a 60 day window of time. Microsoft has also released a tool that website owners/developers can use to determine if any of their website functionality will be affected by the update. The official bulletin is attached below; I'm planning on sending this out to the sites shortly to give them time to determine the impact to their environment. Please let me know if you think that there is any additional information that I should add to the bulletin before sending it to the sites..

From: Chris Georgenes (ACE) on 3 Apr 2006 12:46 :) I have to keep reminding myself that the web forums' search feature isn't very efficient and users may actually be searching and not finding anything relavant. I can search the google groups archive on a specific subject and get hundreds and sometimes thousands of returns but when i use the web forum to search for the exact same keyword(s) i get maybe a handful of returns with only 1 or 2 being the actual answer or no returns at all. ****************************************** Peter Blumenthal wrote: >>search forums first - this has been asked nearly everday for the past > > month. > > Sure, and everytime in a breathless "holy cow have you guys *seen* this > yet..." kinda way. I agree with you though peter - not saying Sudsburg is at fault - but it's amazing when the same question gets asked with an hour or 2 of another post owith the same issue - and the 2 threads are almost next to each other LOL. ****************************************** Peter Blumenthal wrote: > Fair point chris - I exclusively use a newsreader, so have no problem with > searching.
