I update actual performance within MSP using the Resource Usage View. I
locate the resource then enter the actual hours the resource expended on the
task. If the resource has completed the task but has remaining work, I zero
out the remaining work. This closes the task, records the actual finish date
and marks the task 100% complete.

Now, here's where things get crazy...

When switching views to the EVM Gnatt tracking view, that same task does not
list an actual finish date. The actual finish column of this completed tasks
list NA. This skews the earned value because no actual finish is recorded

How do I prevent this from happening? Why isn't MSP carring over the actual
finish date when switching to this view?

Hello Twimberly,

Are you using Project Server and PWA? The EVM Gantt Tracking View
doesn't sound familiar in Project Professional or Standard. What
version (including Service Pack) are you using?

Also, I'm not following your comment about a resource completing the
task and still having remaining work. If there is any remaining work,
the task cannot be complete. As you note, zeroing remaining work
should set the task as complete and fill in an Actual Finish.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

If the task is finished, it must have an actual finish date.
Why not just switch to the Tracking Table and type it in.
