Hi,

I'm asking here because I'm very desperated with a bug (?) I've found
with my Stylistic ST5021:

Very often, the DVD drive is not found when the Tablet is in the
TabletDock. More worse, the tablet hangs on start (BIOS screen).
Sometimes rotating the tablet helps but most of the time, rotating it
and/or restarting a few times with CTRL+ALT+DEL has no effect. The one
thing I can do is to remove the tablet a few times from the dock and try
again until it works.

When inserting the Tablet into the Dock from standy or as running device,
sometimes the DVD-drive is not found too :-( There is no icon in "My
Computer" and there is no green drive-icon in the system tray.

At the beginning (3 years ago), everything worked fine but sometime the
problems described above occured. At the beginning, they occured
infrequently and after some tame almost everytime :-(
I was desperated and sent it in for warranty. I got a new TabletDock and
everything worked fine the first time. But after some time all the things
described above repeated.

Last month, almost 3 years later the problem occured so frequently again
that I sent the device in again for warranty. This time they exchanged
the whole motherboard of my Stylistic. But the problem did not resolve,
it's the same again now: Right now, for example, I had to re-insert the
tablet three times (!) into the dock, otherwise, the Tablet hung on boot.
Now, Windows has started up successfully but I'm working without a DVD-
drive; it's simply not detected!

I'm very desperated and because they have changed both the TabletDock and
the Tablet (its mainboard) I'm sure that this is a bug in the Stylistic
series. Now I'm, hoping that anybody here has a Stylistic too and can
confirm/disconfirm the problems I described. Please also write down the
exact device number (e.g. ST5021D).

More better, if anybody has an idea how to solve the problem it would be
very, very great!

Thank you and Best regards,
Peter

Sounds similar to the problem I have been having with loosing the SD
slot... from an earlier find I posted about this, which I hope helps in
your case;

=================================

One of the ongoing problems with my T4215 has been the disappearance of
the memory card slot after a hibernation... important to me as I use sd
cards extensively.

One fix to wake up the memory card slot is to run device manager and
select "Scan for Hardware changes" ...works, but a pain to run over and
over.

Turns out there is a MS downloadable command line utility that offers
device manager functions called DEVCON.EXE...

<http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q311272>

A bit confusing as the downloaded file "DEVCON.EXE" is actually a zip
containing two "DEVCON.EXE" files... one for 32 bit and one for 64 bit

After extracting, running;

DEVCON rescan

executes the same action as the device manager menu rescan option.

There is also a "restart" argument, but, for the moment, will stick with
"rescan" on the possibility that other hardware may need to be awakened.

Put the above in a desktop shortcut so that it can be activated with a tap.

Hope this is of value,
Beverly Howard

Hi,

Thank you for this hint; I tried it out but it did not work. I actually
tried running the the "scanning for hardware changes" before and it did not
work either.

It looks to me as it would be a hardware bug:
- Windows reinstallation did not work
- BIOS hang (sometimes)
- Scanning for hardware in Linux does not work
- Exchange of the TabletDock did not help (it worked for a short time)
- Exchange of the Motherboard did not help.

Best regards,
Peter

Peter,

I have a Stylistic 5010D that I bought slightly used three years ago
and it has always had these same problems. I have reloaded Windows
more than once and that has never had any effect on the ability of the
CPU to find the DVD drive in the dock. Sometimes it works, but mostly
it does not. I bought an external, slim USB DVD-DL writer for
portable use and leave it plugged to the dock when I am home. It
always works, so I don't worry about the missing DVD.

I also have the problem of not booting when the CPU is docked. I
usually just eject it and power up before docking. This works
reliably. The manual does talk about not making major configuration
changes (like docking/undocking) while in standby mode, but that
should not apply when turning the computer off and on.

The bottom line is that these problems seem to be design flaws and
will not be fixed by Fujitsu. Try doing as I do to relieve your
desperation. Only power up undocked and get an external optical
drive.

Good luck,
Chris
