From: D. SHAW on 25 Jul 2007 19:12 The BIOS on my mobo (Abit KR7A-RAID) only supports up to Athlon XP 2000+ (no later BIOS version available) but I want to install an XP 2400+ cpu. Can I safely install this to run at it's designated speed and should I increase the FSB or the multiplier to accommodate it?
From: peter on 25 Jul 2007 22:07 If you can crank the multiplier up to 15 you OK.........but I understood that boards bios to have a mulitplier limit of 13 .... test it and see peter "D. Any socket A cpu will run in any socket A MB (assuming neither is defective). See My server link below for details. If the XP 2400+ you get is a locked model (date code 0338 or later), it should default to a 15x multiplier. Just make sure the FSB is set to 133MHz and it should run at the default 2000MHz. If you get an earlier model that is unlocked, and your board only supports 4 of the 5 multiplier bits, it shiould default to 2000MHz, but with a setting of 20x100MHz FSB. Forget anything from the Abit website about support. that just means they don't support it, not that it won't work. You search google groups and find lots of people running all models of cpu's in the KR7A model MB's. There are also 2400+ XP-M's that re all unlpocked and need to be treated a little diferently. Should be lots of sockect A details here. http://fab51.com/index-e.html -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html Usenet alt.video.ptv.mythtv My server http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php HD Tivo S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm |
