From: HDestin on 6 May 2008 21:55 Hey all, I'd like to create a website and Dreamweaver looks very intimidating, can anyone recommend an easy to use software that I could utilize to create a blog, a forum and a survey (simple 4 question survey with the option to "click here to view result"? My knowledge of html is nonexistent and my budget is somewhat unlimited. Thanks in advance Harold
From: webstaffuk on 7 May 2008 03:19 Hi, HDestin DW will do exacly what you want but you have some other questions to ask also like scripting language and how to store your data and where...what databaase to use.. Ive tried a few HTML editors and always stick with my DW. You will need to figure out HTML and a little more if you want to make this all yourself although there are ready made apps around that do what you want and may be a better option as if you dont know HTML your going to find it tough I think..
From: B on 7 May 2008 10:04 Hi What about this. 1. get yourself a hosting account - where you can host your site (domain) 2. Use wordpress for your blog (most hosting sites include a quick install of this) 3. Create your site / blog 4. Use one of the wordpress plugins to create your surveys (wp-poll or democracy are two that come to mind) or 5. Use a web based survey / poll site 6. add a forum using http://www.phpbb.com/ -- B www.visit-the-coqui.com/ If you are thinking of a vacation to Puerto Rico http://gadgetgrapevine.blogspot.com Latest gadget and other news here "HDestin" <webforumsuser(a)macromedia.com> wrote in message news:fvr277$qs5$1(a)forums.macromedia.com... > Hey all, > I'd like to create a website and Dreamweaver looks very intimidating, can > anyone recommend an easy to use software that I could utilize to create a > blog, > a forum and a survey (simple 4 question survey with the option to "click > here > to view result"? From: joeq on 7 May 2008 10:35 for the survey part, i like surveymonkey.com
From: P on 7 May 2008 10:43 Hi Harold, You don't want to create any of those from scratch in Dreamweaver; even if you were pretty advanced you probably wouldn't. But there are good scripts you can use, many free. A lot depends upon the web host you're using. Some hosts may install WordPress for you for free, as "B" mentioned. Ask your host. At the same time, ask what scripting languages your account supports: PHP? ASP? ASP.net? ColdFusion? For the blog: Google offers www.blogger.com - completely free blog, simple to set up and not hard to customize, and you can host it on their servers OR on your own. For the forum: if the host supports PHP or ASP, there are some good free scripts for forums. They aren't quite for-dummies to install, but definitely not rocket science either. With some help from this forum, you should be able to manage. For the survey: JoeQ's suggestion is probably a good place to start. There are also free scripts you can install.
