I had a Nokia 6230 and tried to get it to connect to a laptop using
Nokia PC Suite but no joy, then tried to connect to my PC via a USB
infrared adapter and no luck.

Phone was exchanged (for another fault entirely) and still I can't
connect reliably - the connection comes and goes and basically doesn't
work.

I can't see any parameters I can adjust - is it just the case that
using infrared on a 6230 is a complete waste of time? I've ordered a
USB cable instead!

My 6230i is fine - it's bluetooth that doesn't work with PC suite....

I had a 6230 and it seemed fine on IR. Maybe it is the computer?

Drop the speed of the IR port on eh laptop to 115,200 bps - it's
probably set at 4Mbps which is too fast.

You must also set the Noklia connection manager software to scan the IR
port for a connected phone.

The bluetooth on my 6230i works very well with the Nokia suite.
Have you managed to get your bluetooth working at all with anything?
My bluetooth adapter has a fixed IP of 192.168.0.1
That is often the default for other devices. I had to alter the IP of
my modem in order to leave that one free for bluetooth. I also, if my
memory serves me correctly, had to set up a virtual USB port or
something like that. I do remember messing about for hours with it to
get it to work with my Palm Tungsten T3.
When my 6230i came along it just worked immediately with the Nokia
Suite. I did download the lastest version and didn't bother with the
one on the disk. I transferred my 7210 contacts to my 6230i using
Nokia suite too.
It is posible, for me, now, on windows, to right click, select 'Send
to' and send a text file to either the 6230i or my Palm. The 6230i
responds and, when you click 'save' if is saved as a 'note'.
Synch of contacts, calendar and notes with Outlook ( which I don't use
for email) works very well.
