From: kg9328 on 10 May 2008 10:50 sI use my laptop on both a corporate microsoft network and on a home microsoft network. At either location, others can PING my laptop only when I am booted into the "SAFE Mode with Networking". I have tried using 'msconfig' to load all services exactly as they are enabled for the SAFE Mode but user are unable to PING me in that configuration, even from the local sub-net(no SYSTEM.INI, WIN.INI or STARTUP files are being processed or loaded). The Widows firewall shows to be disabled and no anti-virus, anti-spam etc. are being loaded. Other symptoms ... possibly related: * unable to load and run Windows Live Mail Client * HP All In One Printer will not recognize my pc on the network for scanning but I can print * Corporate HELP desk cannot connect to me with remote 'shadowing' * There was a time 4 months ago when all of this worked ... including PING from other users. kg

From: Charliec on 10 May 2008 18:16 Robert, I'm having the same problem. What is IPSec and how does one disable it? And should it be disabled on both the desktop and laptop? I have a home network with Linksys 4-Port Router with WinXP on desktop and Vista on the laptop.
