Your image resolution is in pixels. Note the upper part of the image
size dialog. The resolution you are referring to is printing resolution
and controls essentially how large the image will be when printed. It
has no effect on the true capture resolution of the image.

Digital cameras typically set the base printing resolution to 72 ppi. .
The lower the printing resolution, the larger the output and as a
result, the poorer quality the image is.
