note to Charles Hottel
Sorry Charlie , I can't respond within the thread because there are too many headers and the news server won't accept it. Programmers tend to be a critical bunch and are often hardest on themselves. Too critical. Too perfectionist. It helps with the work but can be hard on people. I am tyring to... 28 Sep 2008 03:36

date processing in z/OS
In VSE there is a "DATE card" that can be placed in the JCL with any valid date, and when you use "ACCEPT FROM DATE" you will retrieve this date instead of the actual system date. Apparently this is not available on z/OS. We have jobs that run early in the morning but are really part of the previous day's busi... 9 Oct 2008 13:31
CALL using OMITTED
So we now have a small z/OS system, in addition to our z/VSE system, so I've been trying out some features in Enterprise COBOL for z/OS that are missing in COBOL for VSE/ESA. One feature I've always thought might be useful is CALL with the OMITTED argument. So I wrote the following: ID DIVISION. ... 1 Oct 2008 02:53

Speaking of Fonts... a question
I can't believe I haven't stumbled upon this before, but I'm having some difficulty finding a font setting in Windows to print at 6 LPI (lines per inch). We're converting checks to print on a laser instead of an impact printer. It's pretty standard stuff... three checks per page with 3-1/2 inch spacing from one ... 26 Sep 2008 12:31
