OT - Off-Topic
There are certainly days (weeks?) when I think that Pete's forecast for COBOL must be true. Just look at how active CLC would be if we only talked about "on-topic" topics. (I guess that the general issue of "OO" vs "Procedural" is on topic, but so little else in this newsgroup is). As usual, I know that this... 11 Jan 2008 18:17
Quicksort recursiv
Hi, Is it possible to program the Quicksort Algorithm recursive in Cobol? I know that it is possible to call SubPrograms with CALL "name" an give the SubProgram some Data. What would happen if the SupProgram calls itself? Will that be real recursive or doesn't that work? Does somebody already have a concl... 15 Jan 2008 15:08

OT: Computer Science Education: Where Are the Software Engineers of Tomorrow?
I read the article mentioned below and tend to agree with it. I also believe that a serious lack in computer science education is the failure to explore the paradigm for COBOL, the different mathematics (fixed point decimal versus floating point), the reasons for the use and the different expected results. The di... 10 Jan 2008 12:34
PowerCOBOL Drag and Drop
I have been working on getting Windows Drag and Drop (the OLE version) functionality to work, for a client using PowerCOBOL with a third party "smart grid" component written in VB. It is VERY difficult. The grid uses an Object defined in the VB run time, to provide an interface for a data object in which to... 1 Feb 2008 00:44
External Stored Proc Limitations?
Hi. I was wondering if anyone out here knows if there is a limit to the size of an external stored procedure? I am currently using VB programs in Windows to call small COBOL stored procs residing in AIX without any problems. This time, however, I am planning to have another VB program call a COBOL stored proc that,... 11 Jan 2008 05:57
