Is there a way in fireworks CS3 to combine two images into one with a simple
fade to transparent. In other words, have the two images on the right and
left. From the middle of the image, have it fade into the other image like a
gradient? If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great.

You could feather each image by clicking it, drawing a marque inside of the
bitmap then going to Select > Feather. An alternate way which I prefer is to
select the image and go to Commands > Creative > Fade Image.

Either way, once you have the two images faded/feathered in opposite
directions just lay them on top of each other and presto!
