From: MR338 on 21 Jul 2008 13:12 A few months ago I began receiving an error message when trying to open my website to edit. "Could not find a web server at www.cpacinc.org on port 80. Please check to make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly...." I had not changed anything recently, the message just started popping up one day. My web host company said to reinstall front page extensions, which I did, but the problem persisted. Suddenly, one day, everything started working fine again. Now today, the same message has been popping up as well as messages about missing files. Sometimes the files open, sometimes the web page opens and other times, I get the error message. What's going on and how can I fix it? Thanks! Melissa
From: Stefan B Rusynko on 22 Jul 2008 04:19 Run a repair (or have your host run a repair) on the FP SE - or as before remove and reapply the FP SE If this is happening repeatedly something is corrupting the FP SE - if it is not you (by use of FTP on the site) then the host has a problem you should ask them to correct (or find another host) -- _____________________________________________ SBR @ ENJOY (-: [ Microsoft MVP - FrontPage ] "Warning - Using the F1 Key will not break anything!" From: MR338 on 4 Aug 2008 14:46 Per your advice and the advice of our webhost, I tried again to fix the problem by reinstalling the FP SE. I still received the same error message and called the web host again. They checked out the extentions and said they were fine. They told me that the problem was with the fact that the error indicated that the website was trying access through port 80 instead of port 21. Does this sound right? If so, how do I fix this? If not, where do I go from here? Thanks for your help. "MR338" wrote: > Thank you. Port 21 is the FTP port which is NOT used by the FP Server Extensions! You web host has not idea what they are talking about, suggest you move to a Windows based Web host the supports the FP extensions, if you want to use the features of the extensions. -- ============================================== Thomas A.
