Yes, installing Office with Microsoft Access will install DAO as well. XP mode is a virgin install
of Windows XP so updates, service packs and other components need to be installed.

If I remember correctly you need an OS SP for XP (SP2) or 2000 (SP4) or you need to install the
components.

Possible. My sample Virtual PC sessions of those OSs are fully
patched.
