From: Monte Davis on 1 Oct 2006 13:03 I've recently returned an All-in-Wonder 8500DV to service, but can't find its driver CD-ROM. I've used the downloaded Catalyst driver recommended for the 8500 (6-5_xp...32464.exe), and MMC 9.02 (ditto). During installation I get "ATI DVD decoder not detected" -- and no DVD player as part of the MMC. The DVD drive is recognized by the hardware, and Windows Media Player MP will play my DVDs in it... but is there a way to get the ATI app as well? FWIW, I also have a TV Wonder not currently in use, and do have its CD -- any chance an "overlay" installation of that would pick up the DVD? Monte Davis http://montedavis.livejournal.com
From: First of One on 1 Oct 2006 16:33 If Windows Media Player plays DVDs just fine, why would you want ATi's own bloated app? DVD hardware acceleration is not worth mentioning on anything newer than a 300 MHz Pentium II. -- "War is the continuation of politics by other means. In my experience windows media player doesn't play DVDs as smoothly as the ATI Multimedia Centre version. As the 8500DV comes with a TV Tuner, ATI MMC will need to be installed anyway to get the TV to work. The DVD Player folder on my 8500DV's MMC installation occupies an additional 1.57 MB - maybe bloated to a "data anorexic". The O/P will be able to buy a new CD from ATI or possibly even be sent one for free by the local distributor (as happened with me). FWIW Multimedia Centre 9.08 works fine with the 8500DV even though it's not officially supported by ATI for this hardware. The TV Wonder CD does not contain ATIs DVD Decoder so no combinations will make any difference there. Paul

You don't need to install the DVD player off the CD first. I can make you a disc image (ISO or NRG format) of my 9800 AIW's install CD, if you like, and put it online for you to download - you can create a CD or mount it as a virtual drive, then run the DVD install.
