Not sure if this is your issue or not, but I've noticed that for the last few
versions of flash that in the debugger display, the call stack window will
creep up and cover the Properties, Variables, Locals, & Watch window pane. I've
spent a day or two thinking that the debugger was hosed, but then discovered
that if you select the small divider line and pull down, voila you can see the
variables window.
