From: ps56k on 22 Aug 2008 02:01 We currently have a couple of Dell C610 laptops. Our son "thinks" he would like a new XPS laptop. Since we are really used to our modular bays, for running 2 batteries - or the CD/DVD, etc could not really see if the XPS laptop would be a good replacement or - ????????? maybe just an updated Latitude ? Hard to really compare the C610 to the new XPS, Studio 15, Latitude, etc -- ---------------------------------- "If everything seems to be going well, you have obviously overlooked something." - Steven Wright

None of the convenience you've had with the C-series components will work with either an XPS or D-series laptop. That said, the D-series does offer the durability (over the XPS), extended warranties (generally) and swapping of D-series components much in the same way as your C-610's. I'd suggest you consider upgrading to the D-series Latitudes since what you have has worked so well for you. Add another D-series machine later and benefit from the uniformity/commonality as you do now. I got this e-mail deal on a (lower-end) D-530 Latitude just today. The hardware specs are excellent, but the default warranty is only 1 year mail-in. Nice price though at $649 w/free ship: http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=blcwngc&cs=04&dgvcode=ss&c=US&l=EN&lid=566643&dgc=CJ&cid=24471 -Stew |
