However, in the last couple of days the Dell (UK) website says that the leadtimes are back to normal again (5/6 days). My order status today quotes 25/04 as the delivery date. From your experience (and any inside knowledge), am I going to be waiting a couple more weeks or just a few days? (Thought I'd try this before the chore of calling Dell...).

I too ordered an Inspiron 1720 on March 31, 2008, was given an estimated shipping date of 4/8/08. Two days ago I received an email saying shipping date has been pushed back to 4/14/08 due to unexpected delays. I'm in the U.S. Good luck.

I've just received an e-mail from Dell confirming that the delivery estimate is still 25/04. They go on to say that, due to popularity, demand has exceeded supply and that they are working with suppliers to improve on this date. It sounds as though Dell are struggling to keep a stock of all the components worldwide. Granted, over here anyway, the specification is at least £100 cheaper than any other manufacturer, so it's difficult to be too harsh on them. The very best of luck to you too. I'm sensing we'll both need it...

According to them, the parts that will delay the shipping (in my case) would be the 6 cell battery (3 day delay) and the glossy 1420 x something screen.. a 15 day delay!
