I've made a direct comparison of RAW data per unit of area in the deep shadows of ISO 100 between the FZ50 (1.97 micron) and the 400D (5.7 micron). My daughter dropped my HP R817. The lens mechanism gear train was jammed, and although I did get it moving again, I stretched some tiny springs in there and don't think it will be repairable.
