that beep code suggests a problem with the video. remove and reinstall the
video card and try to boot again. when doing this, note the make/model of
the video card and if it has a fan on it and if that fan is working, or if
there are any capacitors on the card that are buldging on top. the
dimension 4100 is a very well built machine and i would be suprised if any
of the original compoents failed. more likely that after market video card
or memory module may be at fault. with as little more ram (256mb) and 20gb
hard disk or larger it runs xp just fine. windows 2k is ok as well. but
before you install any os why not download and run the system diagnostics.
and if you need more memory conact me privately. i think i have some
kicking around.

Getting a POST Error, beeps (1 long(?) followed by 3 short)
Code lights on back show all 4 green though.
System is bare bones, MB, HD, 128 RAM, & Video.
All OEM hardware as far as I can tell.
System was originally running Windows ME, and very poorly at that.

Originally Tried installing Windows 2000 Pro on a freshly FDisk Hard drive.
Comes up with error:
"File \i386\ltkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded."
"The error code is 16"
"Setup can not continue..."

Tried booting DSL and gets an error:
"Kernel Panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs 0n 03:02"

I'm thinking it might be RAM or the Video card from what information I can
gather on line.
Any further information would be welcome.
