From: Sawat on 15 Nov 2006 00:56 First off, I have an ATI Radeon 9800 XT, but recently I have been getting some display issues. On normal applications, such as Word or any other 2D application, I get small vertical columns of pink rectangles blazed across the screen. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/sawat/displayissues.jpg I also have problems in 3D applications, such as games, in which the textures seem to be smeared across the screen. It is like someone grabbed a point of the texture, lets say a wall, and stretched that point to the opposite side of the screen. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/sawat/textureproblem.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/sawat/displaycorruption2.jpg There are also some issues with the pixels, where there would be a cluster that would make objects see through. I've upgraded to the most recent driver, Catalyst 6.10, but that only made matters worse (after installing I wasn't even able to open up my game, plus the vertical bands were still on the screen), so I went back to the version I was using before, Catalyst 6.3 Any help would be appreciated - Sawat

It could be clogged up with dust or the card itself could be so dirty that it's overheating. When you removed the old drivers did you use ATI UninstallALL? You can find it where you installed the drivers, or do a search for "AtiCimUn.exe" It removes almost every trace of any ATI program on your PC. Gives you a nice clean start. JLC

Over time, thermal stresses cause cracks in the solder joints that attach the GPU to the board. Try gently bending the card (just a tiny amount) while it's runing. If 'm right, the display wil instantly wierd out. The only cure is to reflow the solder - something you could, if desperate, try with a blowtorch and lots of electronic flux. The survival rate for this procedure is pretty low.... Before resorting to that, remove the card, or at least rock it back and forth in the socket a few time, to clean any corrosion or whatwever off the contacts. Check the fan. Other than that, there's not much to be done. -Greg
