From: ehartmann on 19 Jul 2007 19:45 Hello everyone! My name is Eric Hartmann; this is my first post! I am a multimedia designer newly employed at the Arizona Supreme Court as an Education Specialist. I have been working in eLearning now for a couple of years building animations and interactives with Flash and uploading to an LCMS. I am relatively new to Authorware, but I am learning quickly. Of course, the Court has been using Authorware to build and publish our CBTs. As you all know, Authorware is not supported on Windows Vista and the entirety of the AZ Supreme Courts is migrating to that platform sometime near October. I know there isn't any information available about an Authorware update, but I was hoping someone could tell me if they have had any success running Authorware 7.0 in Vista. I can seemingly build projects on the Vista OS but I cannot get my projects to publish. Oy! Relatedly, are there any know problems building in XP but deploying the .exe files on Vista? My testing on this so far had proven positive (no problems) but I am skeptical and certainly interested in other experiences. I was also writing to see if there were other equitable software options available for CBTs (I haven't seen any). Also, I suspect in the future we may additionally go toward a web delivered training experience and was wondering if something along the lines of Breeze or Connect might better serve our needs, both now and then, with Authorware being in the state it is in. Or should I just bite the bullet and learn to use web language (xml?) to assemble my flash and handle user info and metrics? I have also heard rumors about Adobe eventually offering a full-fledged LMS; is there any truth to this? I am overwhelmed!!! Any information at all would be very much appreciated! Peace and thanks!
From: Erik **AdobeCommunityExpert** on 20 Jul 2007 10:12 I've not tried to develop or publish in Authorware under Vista. I've not read any problems about doing so, but there sure could be. For published .exe's, we've found that if you select the compatibility tab and set it to run as a Windows 2000 .exe, that generally allows our ..exe's to work without a problem. Perhaps that same fix would be applicable to the Authorware.exe itself as well if you're having trouble getting it to publish (or perhaps more relevant, the "obp.exe" and "obb.exe" files in the Authorware folder?). Adobe already has an LMS available called Acrobat Connect: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatconnect/ It supposedly works very well with their other products, like Captivate, but it's pretty expensive... If I may, I'd like to contact you directly on other options, especially regarding your LMS questions. From: ehartmann on 20 Jul 2007 11:18 Thanks for the info! I have been trying to learn more about Connect, but it looks to be a deep program. I'd need something to publish on the web as well as publish to CD based CBTs . I haven't seen anything so far that says it's easy to do both. I'll keep looking, though! Oh, and anyone can feel free to drop me a line @ my email ( ehartmann(a)courts.az.gov ) if you want a more direct discussion.
From: Otto (No Spam ) on 20 Jul 2007 12:16 Hello, to produce CBT's it works fine - and also most xtras like impressario or buddy. ciao "ehartmann(a)courts.az.gov" <webforumsuser(a)macromedia.com> schrieb im Newsbeitrag news:f7qjoh$6qf$1(a)forums.macromedia.com... > Thanks for the info! No problems on the development side., Testing web published content is a pain - workarounds for testing locally using Internet Explorer 7 have been posted here in the past. Web-published content that your clients need to view has the same couple of issues as with IE 7 on XP - ReadURL needs the iFrame workaround and .. um .. er ... it's late I think there is a second issue, but I forget what it is. What Erik says about published exes is correct under certain circumstances, but in most cases you may not even need to know or care about compatibility mode.
