From: Ricky Hunt on 22 Apr 2008 12:35 I ran analysis software of my drives (all SATA) and here's the numbers I got: Seq. write: 50.92MB/s Seq. read: 54.68MB/s Buf. write: 55.96MB/s Buf read: 99.62MB/s Random read: 25MB/s Do these numbers sound off? I'm pretty sure they're at least comparable to the IDE's that I replaced. I sure don't want to go to the trouble of starting from scratch since it's taken me almost two months to get my system back where it was. I'm going to run HD Tach and Leoni's app and see what I get. -- Thanks, Ricky Hunt

My Seagate 320 GB SATA II drive: sequential read is 64.4 MB/s average, with about 73 MB/s at the beginning and about 45 MB/s at the end. Burst speed is 215.4 MB/s The newest version of HD Tach is 3.0.4.0
From: Kraig Olmstead on 22 Apr 2008 21:45 Those are smokin' compared to what I used to get on my drives the last time I checked a few years ago. My advice now is the same as my advice then: Looks good enough. The hard disk isn't a bottle neck. Move on. I don't think the fact that the CPU is the bottleneck has changed over the last couple of years. If anything the plug-ins will have gotten more CPU hungry. Mine are 500GB Sata's so I guess mine are running about as good as can be expected (and apparentely in SATA mode)?
