From: jeff loven on 1 Apr 2008 02:44 Anybody out there using Drumcore w/Sonar. Would you recommend this product. If you have-is it difficult to configure as a plug-in via rewire (I'm not familiar with what rewire is/does). Thanx again Jeff

I have played with it only a tiny bit, certainly not enough to have a working knowledge of it at this point, and I haven't had time to revisit it since, either. However, you might check out Fred Grittner's review of it on CakewalkNet at: www.cakewalknet.com/index.php?Itemid=2&id=74&option=com_content&task=view I know he covered some of the workflow considerations on making it work with SONAR. I was only playing around with it standalone when I tried it. I've also tried their KitCore a little bit, but ran into one of the general MIDI loop previewing issues SONAR has in general, which needs solutions like Stylus RMX and EZ Drummer to make clean. I think hooking KitCore up to Toontrack's EZ Player Free might be one way to deal with that, and I did experiment very briefly with that, but not enough to be able to just use it in a project, and I was also tight on time when I did, so had to just revert to using EZ Drummer for my recording project. I've resolved to revisit both of these products in the future as the drummers involved are definitely top notch, so I think that alone should make it worth trying to find a way to figure out their workflow and how it might fit into my projects. For better or for worse, though, when time is tight, I tend to revert to the things I already know how to do quickly, and time has seemed to be exceedingly tight so far this year. From: tomh2099 on 4 Apr 2008 19:00 Has anyone had any luck using drumcore with Sonar as a midi synth? I downloaded the demo of drumcore to see how well this would work. I was able to add drumcore into Sonar's synth rack. It created a midi track and an audio track. However I was not able to trigger the drumcore drum sounds by playing notes on my midi keyboard. I went through the entire range of notes and none of them seemed to be mapped to the drumcore sounds. ?!? I did have success dropping a pattern onto an audio track though and it sounded great. However, I tend to use midi because I can tinker and tweak things more. If anyone knows of a trick to make this work, let me know.
From: Rick Paul on 5 Apr 2008 02:09 Check pages 66 and 67 in the DrumCore PDF manual. I haven't yet tried using DrumCore in SONAR, to know exactly what it does and doesn't do via MIDI and ReWire, but there is a special step you need to go to to actually hear DrumCore when it's being used via ReWire (which is how it gets used inside SONAR). Those two pages give the sequence of steps needed to hear it in SONAR (p.66) and for general setup inside SONAR (p.67). The key seemed to be the correct configuration in drumcore's Preferences dialog. The manual also suggested pointing the Sonar midi track to go through midi channel 10 (typically that's the drum channel) but that didn't seem to make a difference. Once I got it working, I switched to channel 1 and that worked too. Anyway Thanks! Drumcore seems to do everything I wanted. Wish it were cheaper though ...
