Dells Studio laptop on Dell's UK site gives these options for the optical
drives.

Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive
or
Fixed Internal Blu-ray Disc (DVD+/-RW + CD-ROM)

Whereas on the US site the DVD drive is quoted as dual layer. Are all Dell
DVD drives dual layer or are we in the UK being short changed? Can these
drives also write CD-R? The Blu-ray appears not to as CD-ROM suggest that
it can only read these drives. I can't find an email address for Dell in
the UK, does anyone know of one?

Thanks.

I feel confident that any/all DVDRW drives currently sold are dual-layer.
I've not bought a DVDRW drive or a system with one in perhaps the last two
years that did not have that feature.

Bottom line: I don't think the UK is getting scrooed on this one.

I doubt if anyone still makes single layer DVD burners, so it's no longer necessary to mention 'dual layer' just like it's not necessary to mention that a DVD burner also burns CDs.
