From: pheasant on 7 Jul 2008 11:57 Windoze; hardware; who knows. USB's are fubar as in a previous post. That started with a new D-Link wireless N adapter. Been reading posts on this issue still no resolve to it. When plugging in some jump drives windows xp SP3 recognizes them correctly and reports them as such in the drive tree. Others will be reported in hardware manager under disk drives as working properly, but won't show in the list of drives when exploring My computer. Did this with a DVD burner I added last winter too. After unplugging one of the other CDROMS then it showed in the drive tree. Am wondering if a fresh install on a new hard drive would alleviate both issues, or if I'd need a new motherboard plus hard drive. I know that would increase success chance greatly, but socket A boards ain't exactly plentiful, and one I'm watching on Ebay is already over 65 bucks. Too much old hardware, and too stubborn to want to buy brand new. Yah; I'm old. Can't throw anything away. Thanks for the idea Chris. Running 4.96 to 5.04 consistently according to Soltek's motherboard monitor. Have decided after daughter's wedding will try and find a newer mobo/cpu and power supply with th new 24 pin plug with a few PCI slots. Saw an ASUS A7 deluxe for for over 140 bucks on eBay yesterday.
