From: B Yates on 8 Nov 2005 05:38 Hi guys, I am trying to create a simple animation using a mask. I want to create something which looks like an ECG machine. I have created the zig-zag pattern and made it a mask layer, and placed a coloured rectangle on the layer beneath it which scrolls left to right very quickly. The problem is that the mask doesn't work for some reason. My zig-zag line just disappears completely when i convert it to a mask. The zig-zag line is a symbol at present, however I also tried it as a series of lines grouped, but this didn't work either. Any ideas please? B.
From: B Yates on 8 Nov 2005 10:02 Update: I have got the mask working on the stage, the problem was that I was using the line tool instead of a slim rectangle to create the mask. Spot the beginner. Although it works nicely on the stage, when i export the movie, or do a test scene, only the background is displayed. Here is the setup of the movie: mask layer - contains the zig-zag pattern for the ECG, and is set to mask r1 layer - contains a green rectangle which moves from left to right on a motion tween, is set to masked background - black I can't understand why it won't display? Cheers, B.

From: B Yates on 10 Nov 2005 04:25 Hi Chris, Yes I have done this - my update post acknowledged this mistake. The problem now is that it works perfectly on the stage, with the layer setup as described in update post, but when I Export or Test Scene it displays a blank canvas. B.
From: B Yates on 11 Nov 2005 04:12 Managed to get it working. I hadn't grouped the fills I used to make up the zig-zag pattern, and there was a small instance of a stroke on the edge of the mask layer which was causing the error when outputting. Thanks for your input Chris. B.
