Any ideas? What exactly are you trying to delete from My Network Places? What's its name? I'd expect to see network connections in the Network Connections folder, not in My Network Places. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see. From: Deathwish on 21 Feb 2005 11:09 I stand corrected, it was under network connections & it is called "Local Connection 3". It is a connection I established with a crossover cable whose settings were incorrect. I had wanted to delete it & start fresh, but I was able to change some settings & get up to the point where I can ping either computer via IP address but I can not ping via computer name. I've read this means that I prob have to enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, but I do not know how. I have read that some people simply select it as a setting... where is this? Control Panel? Also, when I ipconfig/all, I get a mixed node type on my XPPro SP2 Laptop & I get Unkown on my XPPro SP2 PC. Also important may be that I ran the registry editor on my PC (with unknown node type), opened this key: HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Netbt\Parameters and did not find these values: NodeType DhcpNodeType "Steve Winograd [MVP]" wrote: > In article <CD5C4386-16FA-4426-95A5-4F25BA1748DE(a)microsoft.com>, > Deathwish <Deathwish(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > >When I try to delete a connection from My Network Places, I get a message > >saying Error Deleting Connection...The connection you selected cannot be > >deleted. > >Win XP Pro SP2. From: Deathwish on 21 Feb 2005 13:19 I also read that I should," open that registry key again, create a DWORD value called "NodeType", and set it to 1 for "Broadcast" or 4 for "Mixed".", but I'm not sure what this means. Does this mean to open the same key (above) again? If so, how do I create a DWORD (& what is it)? I have read these Microsoft Knowledge Base articles: Default Node Type for Microsoft Clients http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;160177 TCP/IP and NBT Configuration Parameters for Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;314053 but I'm still confused as to what I should do step by step in the registry & I'm not sure if I have to even go through the registry since I've read that some people have enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP as some sort of setting. I would prefer this method but I will do anything at this point. "Deathwish" wrote: > I stand corrected, it was under network connections & it is called "Local > Connection 3". The only one that indicates a problem is "Point-to-Point". There's no need to look for or delete any registry values. To enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP: 1. Open the Network Connections folder. 2. Right click the local area network connection and click Properties. 3. Double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). 4. Click Advanced. 5. Click WINS. 6. Click the Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP button. -- Best Wishes, Steve Winograd, MS-MVP (Windows Networking) Please post any reply as a follow-up message in the news group for everyone to see.
