Hello Lizdee,

I can only post what others have tried and had some success with -

Tony, posted what worked for him -

<snip>

tony,

just disconnect the network after downloading while the windows is
installing if didn't work just restart the computer and don't connect to the
internet, go back to the windows update and press install, because they will
be already downloaded, and it will work (vista SP2)

Jose
disconnecting from the 'net and rebooting worked. thanks!

<snip>

Another user posted what worked for him

<snip> close all office applications prior to the next install attempt.

insert your office 2007 into the appropriate drive-bay prior to the
next install attempt.

close all open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar).

temporarily disable any third-party real-time system protections (e.g.,
anti-virus; anti-spyware; firewall) prior to the next install attempt.

reboot after an install attempt, whether prompted to do so or not.

tip: if this is occurring in windows vista, disable user account control
(UAC), install the updates, reenable UAC.

<snip>

If the OS is Vista and the update in question KB982331, as posted
previously from a post by an MS Support Engineer in the
social.answers.update forum:
http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/08fec454-aad4-49fd-8df9-068b00faef6b

1. Turn off UAC. Don't just lower down the restrictions - turn it off
completely.
2. Restart your computer for the change to take into effect.
3. Re-download Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System
(KB982331) from the link below:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=7f89a734-cda4-4abb-9a10-f6dfe560e8d0&displaylang=en>

4. Install it.

<snip>

Here's 3 resolutions for Vista/Windows 7:
1) Temporarily disable User Account Control. Install the updates,
restart, reenable User Account Control.

2) Install the updates with the Office CD already inserted into the
CD/DVD drive.

3) Open Windows Update in the Control Panel. Click the 'View updates
history' link. Write down the KB number of the *failed* updates.

Next, go here: Microsoft Download Center
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/Search.aspx?>

Download the updates by searching for the KB number, save said updates.
When you have them all, close Internet Explorer, and install them one at
a time.
NOTE: Be sure to download the updates intended for the architecture of
the system. x86 (32bit) versions for x86 (32bit) systems; x64 (64bit)
versions for x64 (64bit) systems.

4) When the update in question is a *Security update*, such as
MS10-031: Description of the security update for the 2007 Office system:
May 11, 2010
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976321>
then MS offers *no-charge support* in getting the update installed or
troubleshooting compatibility issues:

" How to obtain help and support for this security update

For home users, no-charge support is available by calling 1-866-PCSAFETY
in the United States and Canada or by contacting your local Microsoft
subsidiary. For more information about how to contact your local
Microsoft subsidiary for support issues with security updates, visit the
Microsoft International Support Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/common/international.aspx?rdpath=4>

North American customers can also obtain instant access to unlimited
no-charge e-mail support or to unlimited individual chat support by
visiting the following Microsoft Web site:

For enterprise customers, support for security updates is available
through your usual support contacts. "

That's all there is on this error code ... so far, Ǝиçεl. If I stumble
over any others, I'll try to post it/them before I leave on "vacation".
