Dear all,

I am quite new in the Mac world, so forgive me if my question is a
silly one.

Before my mac experience I used to organize my pictures in the
following way
<year_directory>
<month_event_dir>
<month_event_dir>
..etc..
With iPhoto I don't need to create such a structure in the file system
because iPhoto organizes the pictures in a similar manner for me. I
saw that using terminal: there is an hidden directory with .original
and .modified if I am not wrong...

The problem I have now is that I wish to export all the pictures
maintaining a similar structure.
If I select some event and I choose 'export' the pictures will be
exported all in the _same_ directory.

Is there any way to export pictures from more events, getting as
output a single folder for every event?

My idea is simply to create a visibile directory structure, divided by
event, so that I could synch int with another laptop via wifi.
Is it possible to export from iPhoto in such a way?

Please suggest even the obvious... I am still a beginner.

Thanks a lot,
Michele

PS: of course a solution would be to export from one event at time, in
different folders... but I am after a more automatized solution.

You don't say what version of iPhoto you have, but as far as I know,
none of the versions used the "dot" form of the name to hide a directory.

The current version, 7.1.3, organizes things thusly:
Library
Originals (or Modified)
Year
Event
Photos

Except for the Originals/Modified dichotomy, you could just dragcopy the
structure from the library to wherever you choose. Alternatively, you
could create a mirror structure of aliases to the appropriate
directories.

No.

Not directly.

You can do this manually easily, though. Don't use the Export command at
all. Make your folders, then just click on the pics in iPhoto and drag
them right out of the iPhoto window and straight into the appropriate
folder.

Thank you Tom.

right, I have 7.1.3

I am not getting how to copy the structure...
If I select more than one event from iPhoto then all the pictures will
go in one single target directory.

From the file browser the photo library appears to be one singe item
(not browseable).

The only way I see to copy the structure is... from the Terminal,
using command line program 'cp'.
But I have been told that if I use command line in Mac, that means
that I am doing it in the wrong way.

Could you please clarify?
I feel really dummy not being able to use a Mac in the meant way...

Thank you!

The only problem with this (unless I am doing something wrong -
possible), is that to maintain the event-directory structure, I have
to copy one event at time...

Thanks
