From: Tony Kuzub on 27 Nov 2005 11:43 Okay guys I'm in need of some studer technical support. I've been through the manual several times and still can't seem to hunt down my problem. So I'm asking the technicians of yesteryear for some help. The advice that solves my problem will be given $100 via paypal/money order This is the setup Studer A80 mkII (with a few MKIII upgrades) 2" machine. You turn the power on and the machine gets thrown into play mode....and the play button flashes, you cannot hit stop or rew of fwr nothing. this happen with the remote unplugged, the buttons are removed, the light sensor is removed and when some of the cards are swapped with the extra set i have. is there something i need to do to bypass the remote? or if it's not plugged in it bypasses? Any ideas? I hope someone out there can help me! OR put me in the direction who can. you can go to my website and email me through there or post your suggestion on here Tony Kuzub www dot highvoltagerecording dot com
From: jwilliams3 on 27 Nov 2005 11:49 I remember when the A-80 broke regularly back in the 80's. It usually ended up with a Studer service call and usually ran around $400~500 per vist. With inflation, you will need to up your bid quite a bit! Jim Williams Audio Upgrades

Unpower, isolate the logic board and re-power to see if my theory is correct. Check ICs or other components for unusual short cct. I was not looking at that reward, but it may help! Jim

If you're not on it, mail to studer(a)recordist.com should get you added. >Studer A80 mkII (with a few MKIII upgrades) 2" machine. If you have removed the remote, you need to put a shorting plug in its place. The details of the plug are listed in the manual for the deck, but I think you may well get some behaviour like this without it. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis."

partially shorted play button switch due to spilled drink? esd damage to play switch logic input? connect a scope to the play button, does the logic level change when you press the play button? need a schematic to go further? is the machine really going fully into play mode...i.e the capstan engages and take up reel turns etc?
