Actually, you are correct about the bugs. I erased the disk then set up time machine again and then ran disk utility. It found several flags that were incorrect and some file name errors. When those were corrected back ups are now in place with Time Machine. But that says there are errors in copying by Time Machine as no such errors were present on the original I-Mac.
