There seems to be no other way. If you find one let > me know. Reinstalling WMP didn't sound like a quick fix to me, given all the updates and such over time. However, your thought gave me an idea. I went into WMP's Tools/Options menu, then went to the File Types tab. I noticed Music CD Playback had a grayed box with a check in it, so I toggled that to ungray it (not sure what the gray meant in that case, but sometimes in MS stuff it is that there are suboptions that are inconsistent, but taht shouldn't be the case here as I don't see any suboptions). MP3 audio file was checked, and not gray, but I tried unchecking it, then rechecking it. Miraculously, that seems to have done the trick, though perhaps only until the next QuickTime/iTunes update? One very nice thing about having WMP handle the MP3 files instead of QuickTime is that WMP starts streaming them pretty much immediately if it can (depends on bandwidth of the file versus the connection), whereas QuickTime has to download the whole friggin' file first before it lets you play it. You should go through the Quicktime and iTunes options. I have all auto-updating options turned off, and I never get bugged about updating it unless I manually check. Also, Quicktime CAN start playing mp3s before it's fully downloaded. There's an option for that, too. I hate Quicktime, though, and I have Firefox start up Winamp to play MP3s.

Probably not iTunes, though. I don't really use it very much, except occasionally to check on the status of the stuff I have available there. > Also, Quicktime CAN start playing mp3s before it's fully downloaded. Good to know, but I don't really want to use it anyway. I like WMP. ;-) Rick -- ======================================= Rick Paul Closet Cowboy Music (ASCAP) Web: www.RickPaul.info MySpace: www.myspace.com/rickpaulmusic =======================================

It was my laptop. Too much junk had accumulated. I Ghosted back and now its better, relatively. Guess I'll stick with Firefox for now; I'd miss my add-ons too. I'll keep an eye on that SeaMonkey, though--looks interesting. They need a few download-manager add-ons, though.
