Just for the past week or so I cannot download any linked files such as
bit torrent, dmg, or M3U. Everytime I try to download one of these
files, the download program says "cannot create file" and "safari can't
show the file in the finder because the file hasn't benn created yet".
This is so strange because for years I have been downloading these
files with no problems and I have added no new software or updates
recently. What's up??? I don't think it is a Safari problem because
Firefox couldn't download them either.

It's probably not the case, but is your hard disk (or atleast the
partition to which you are writing) full? I had some strange errors
caused by that before.
