I'm a developer that recently moved up to Studio 8. I've been developing
content utilizing some of the new features to Flash 8 (i.e. Filter effects).

I've been experiencing some wierd feedback from some (web) published movies.
I've let the website viewers know Flash 8 is required (in fact, someone walks
them through the process of installing Flash 8 player on the phone). However,
several are still experiencing some odd anomolies when viewing the flash movie.
(Some simple animations don't work correctly, text does not show up, etc...).

The only thing I could attribute it to was lack of the correct Flash Player
version. However, just last night, a person was very familiar with installing
the flash player attempted to do so on a VERY new computer. He was directed to
Macromedia's site to download the flash 8 player...which said it was
successfully installed. He went back to the site...only to have the same
problems.

After restarting his system and attempting to install the flash 8 player 3
times...the content would still not display correctly. I had created a small
"Flash 8 Installed" animation that uses only features of Flash 8 to test if
users have the latest Flash 8 player (they won't see the movie if it is not).
After each "installation" of the Flash 8 player, he could still not see this
Flash 8 movie.

I'm scratching my head on this one. Is anyone aware of any problems
installing the Flash 8 player on systems? Perhaps a problem with the latest
Macromedia download? Or is it possible some anit-virus software could be
prohibiting the install?

Any help or direction would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

Steve,

Go read the '1904 error' thread in Flash Player forum and test that box
to see if it applies..

<http://groups.google.com/group/macromedia.players.flash/browse_frm/thread/d343ff4f1f2675eb/07db84ce4592e948?lnk=st&q=1904+group%3A*flash*+author%3ABentley+author%3AWolfe&rnum=5&hl=en#07db84ce4592e948>

Then try these steps:
First, make sure you have admin privileges to the machine (which you
probably do)

Second, turn off EVERYTHING YOU CAN TURN OFF. That means all virus
protection, spyware killers, etc. The fewer things running the better.

Next...
1) Completely uninstall the Flash Player using the uninstaller from the
website below:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/ts/documents/remove_player.htm

2) (new step)
Do a SEARCH on all your drives for *flash* . Delete anything that
is swflash.ocx or flash.ocx. Delete any flash folders that look like this:
C:\WinNT\System32\Macromed\Flash
or
C:\Windows\System\Macromed\Flash

3) Download the MSI installer from the URL below:
http://www.macromedia.com/go/full_flashplayer_win_msi

4. Run the MSI installer.

5. Test Flash on macromedia.com

That could fix it. If you get an error '1904' as described in the other
thread, then install the LATEST WINDOWS UPDATE and try the steps again
(we've had one report that the latest update makes the 1904 error go
away, but it's somewhat unconfirmed...)
