I am using Flash movies in an aw7 piece. So far I have used animations made in
Flash 8, saved as swf and imported into aw7. These work fine. However, I now
need to use a wmv movie as the basis of an swf. This completed flash movie
plays fine stand alone, however when imported into aw7, only a white rectangle
is displayed while the sound plays normally. I have tried importing other movie
formats into Flash then saving as swf (All ok) but the problem in aw7 remains.
What am i doing wrong?
Any advice suggestions appreciated.

Authorware 7 only supports up to Flash 6 in the Xtra. So you'll either need
to publish as Flash 6 or use the Flash player ActiveX control. Note if you
use the ActiveX control, the end users will all need to have a player that
is at least the version you have.

Understood.
Flash wont publish as 6, so active x it is.
Problem, flash not listed among active x controls. Where do i get it from?

It's listed as the 'Shockwave Flash Object', I believe.

You could try publishing as Flash 7 and see if that works, but it likely
won't. The Authorware Xtra, as Amy mentions, only officially supports
Flash 6. You can often load Flash 7, or newer, SWFs into it, but whether
they'll play or not largely depends on whether the components,
functions, etc. in those SWFs are something the Flash 6 player would
understand (as you've seen with the other Flash SWFs you've made and
seem to work fine).

You state, "However, I now need to use a wmv movie as the basis of an
swf." How are you making this movie? If you can import a WMV directly
into the timeline - not as an FLV - and publish down to Flash 6 or 7, it
may work. I've only ever done such direct timeline imports from QT
movies. And be aware that such methods sometimes result in a loss of
audio/video sync... But may be worth trying...

You can create Flash 6 frame-based video, and that will work in AW.

But wmv should play natively in the Movie Icon, unless you are running in
Vista.
