Help!
We have created an Authorware course with extensive Fash filesand are havig
sporadic issues with users being able to view the pages that contain Flash.
Does anyone have any ideas what this could be? WE have some users that are
having no problems at all. We have checked for browser, Java, Flash player or
operating system issues and have run out of ideas to try. Any help at all would
be greatly appreciated.

How are you displaying the Flash files in the Authorware program?
Authorware's Flash sprite only supports up to Flash 6, officially. You
might be able to get away with SWF files published in later versions if
you don't use new components, AS/2, etc.

The version of the Flash Player only matters if you're using the Flash
aX control and not the sprite.

Generally, post with more specifics about integration, what version are
the SWFs published to, and what are the problems.

In Authorware, we used the insert Flash icon. We are publishing to Flash 7.
The users are getting an Authorware Web Player Error. "Error downloading
content file. File on server is missing or has wrong length:" then the file
path is given. When the users get to a page that has Authorware content -
everything is fine. When users get to the first Flash page they get an error
box with the following message:
Unable to display icon because the following err has occurred: Xtra not found.
Other objects may also fail to appear. Records of this session will not be
saved. On subsequent pages with Flash content - they get nothing.

Some users are experiencing no problems at all.

Authorware supports Flash 6 this way.

You can get away with publishing as Flash 7 for only so long before you run
into problems.

Publish as 6. Change anything that is not Flash 6 compatible.

I'd generally go with Steve's reply - especially for the second error -
but since some folks are not having any problems at all, then it's
likely not just a Flash issue (?).

So troubleshoot the first error first... Are all files present on the
server? Sure these folks are all accessing the exact same URL and content?

The most common cause of the 'wrong length' error is, in my experience,
folks ran the course once, the course was later updated and republished,
and when the user accesses it again, their browser is using cached
content. Since the lengths almost always change a 'bit' on each publish,
the error results. Ensure users getting that error have cleared their
cache before trying again.

For the second problem, do they all have the full version of the web
player already installed? Ensuring they do may help. I've seen some
problems with download timeouts for the Xtras and such to Adobe's (slow)
server...

If someone can go through the course successfully but then it fails when
retried, it's almost surely some sort of communication problem between
the client machine and the server.
