From: Mike B <Mike on 20 Feb 2005 19:05 My laptop, with XP home, allows one user (who happens to be an Admin) to share folders for access by another computer on the wireless network. This works great. Then I try to share folders of another user (who happens *not* to be an Admin). But the Network Sharing and Security part of the Sharing tab is all greyed out. Why is that? Seems I can't share folders over the network for this user? But read on... I tried logging on as Admin and enabling sharing for the problem user's (non Admin) folders. Seemed to work initially (options not greyed out for starters, allowed me to click the "share" option), but when it came to trying to access the folders from a remote PC (and the folders did show up), permission was denied. So, next option... upgrade the problem user to an Admin and log in as her. Sure enough, can share folders in the normal way through the sharing tab, and they ARE accessible remotely. And the shared folder has a hand icon too! Wow. Then, put that user back to Limited account status. Log back in as her, now as a normal user. The shared folder now does NOT have a hand icon anymore, so it apparently is no longer shared? BUT... it is still accessible remotely! So my problem is kind of fixed, but oh what a MESS! Is this really how things should be? I have to upgrade the user to Admin, share folders, then put the user back to Limited, and just trust the folders are shared even though they don't show up as such. Are things any better with SP2? I'm still on SP1 with my laptop. Thanks for listening. Mike
