I have several font folders on both Macs I use - (one Tiger one
Panther). is there a folder (ie a location) where all fonts should be
and where I should add new ones?

Thx

/Library/Fonts if you want to share them with all other users on your machine.

~/Library/Fonts if you just want them for yourself.

You can use put them in subdirectories of the above directories if you
want. I do that to separate out where the fonts came from - eg
Microsoft, GNOME, etc.

What other font folders are you using?

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks - that's handy. On both machines I seeem to have 10 or more font folders,
including system 9 font folders. I'm getting crashes trying to open some Quark 6
docs now and having stuffed some new fonts into Library/Fonts wonder if there's a
font problem.

It might be worth grabbing Linotype's Font Explorer to help you manage
this stuff. It can show font conflicts, and can also clean caches for
various apps and the OS.

Cheers,

Seconded wholeheartedly. It's the best font manager available and well worth
the price!
