This will almost certainly be faster than trying to unwrangle the mess Apple's migration assistant has caused. So what I would do is log in as an administrator, use the Accounts panel in System Preferences to delete the bad account, create a brand-new account, log into it, connect a Firewire cable between both machines, reboot the old machine while holding down the T key to boot it in Firewire Target Disk Mode, and then copy your documents over to the new account. Use caution when selecting wwhich files you'll copy over. I recommend you refrain from copying files from /Users/you/Library whenever possible.
