From: V Green on 26 Feb 2008 20:10 I have a Fujitsu U810, came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium. Due to various unsolvable issues with Vista, I wiped it and reinstalled XP Tablet (Fujitsu has a full driver suite for both). In Writing or Character, NO gestures work, no matter how carefully I do them. They always get recognized as some character. I've had Pocket PC's for a few years, so I've had some practice with text input. It's as if the system simply does not know what gestures are. Handwriting recognition works fine. Screen calibration seems fine. Scratch-out does NOT work - gets interpreted as something (usually very weird). As an example of the problem: When I try to do a backspace gesture, the TIP interprets it as an underscore character. Now, this is my first tablet and I will be the first to admit I might be doing something wrong, but what?
From: Roger Hill Roger on 6 Mar 2008 07:18 I have the same problem. I bought a U810 a month ago (XP installed by fujitsu) and have the same problem. I've even loaded other utility programs that use gestures and they don't work. The "use gestures" check box is checked under keyboard options. If you ever figure this out please tell me! From: Beverly Howard [Ms-MVP/MobileDev] on 6 Mar 2008 09:58 May be related to the fact that the u810 has a touchscreen rather than wacom... can you confirm that you are making the gestures in contact with the screen? Beverly Howard [MS MVP-Mobile Devices]
From: V Green on 6 Mar 2008 19:18 I found out after Googling a bit that gestures aren't supported by tablets with passive digitzers such as our 810's have. Damn shame. Fujitsu should warn us... Bev, know of any third-party TIP's? From: Roger Hill on 10 Mar 2008 22:43 I don't think that is right. I found out the software group in my company bought 2 U810s for evaluation. These are Vista units and the one I borrowed recognizes gestures just fine. I think there is a system setting that needs set. Beverly, yes I do have the stylus in contact with the screen. Handwriting recognition works - just not gestures like "space" and "enter".
